Cow Imposter: a free 3D cow simulator game in your browser

Play Cow Imposter

You're a cow. Well, the herd thinks you are. Cow Imposter is a free little 3D game that runs in your browser, with nothing to download. You live on a small Alpine meadow with a lake, a barn, a windmill and a cliff, in a herd of about thirty cows who graze, moo, poop and raise calves. All you have to do is fit in. Your score is how long you manage it, and there's an online leaderboard.

Who you will meet

Why the herd gets suspicious

Cows don't sprint. They stare at tourists, they don't run away from the milking and they don't stand frozen for a whole minute. Do any of that too often and the herd figures out you're not one of them. Oh, and keep an eye on your hunger, thirst and poop bars.

What else is going on

The farmer brings water, cleans up and milks you. He also has a knife, so be nice. There are bulls who take romance a bit too seriously, a dog, calves who copy whatever you do, tourists who want a selfie with you and a wolf that shows up at night. The weather changes, sometimes a lot. Some days a hot-air balloon floats by, some nights something weirder does. The tractor has seen better days, the apples aren't always just apples, and I wouldn't stand too close to the cliff. When it all goes wrong, the camera pulls back and you get to see exactly how.

Stuff I won't explain

A lot of the game isn't explained anywhere, on purpose. There's a cave if you can find the way in, a photobooth, a booth that records your moo for the whole herd, a family tree of your calves and a little cemetery up the hill. I also hid ten trading cards around the map. Find all ten and I'll post you a real printed holo card. I'm not telling where they are.

Kids mode and Hardcore

I wanted something I could hand to a small kid, so there's Kids mode: no knife, nobody gets run over, a curious fox instead of the wolf, a fence at the cliff, slower bars, and the cow just faints instead of dying. Kids scores stay on the device. The normal game is pretty cartoony too, but I'd still give a five-year-old Kids mode. Hardcore is the opposite: no bars on screen, no second chance, metal the whole time and its own leaderboard.

Controls

On a keyboard: WASD to walk, Shift to trot, the mouse to look around, hold E to graze, drink or use things, M to moo, hold P to poop, C to lie down, H to flirt, G for a power-up, L for the leaderboard and Space for the menu. You can change every key in the menu. Gamepads work too, with remappable buttons and vibration. On a phone or tablet you get a thumb stick and big buttons. A narrator reads the messages out loud and warns you when you're about to blow your cover.

Free, in the browser

It runs at cowimposter.com in a normal browser on pretty much anything: Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebooks, Android, iPhone and iPad. Nothing to install, no account, nothing to buy. Add it to your home screen if you want it to feel like an app. On slower phones it turns the graphics down by itself. It's in English (with a British and an American narrator), Czech, Polish, Slovak, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and French, all with voice, and there's a Pirate English because why not.

Hi, I'm Filip

Filip Mašek, the game's maker, in a cow mask and headphonesThat's me in the photo. I live in the Czech Republic and I make Cow Imposter on my own. It went live in October 2026 and it's still in beta, so I'm fixing and adding things most days. If you're writing about it, feel free to use any of the pictures on this page (click one for the full size). If you need gameplay video or GIFs, or want to ask me something, write to filip.mmasek@gmail.com. English or Czech is fine.

Questions people ask

What is Cow Imposter?
A free browser game where you're a cow pretending to be a normal cow. You live with a herd on a mountain meadow and have to eat, drink, poop and moo like everyone else, or they notice. Your score is how long you last.
Who made it?
Me, Filip Mašek. I'm from the Czech Republic and it's just me, no studio or publisher.
When did it come out? Is it finished?
It went live on 6 October 2026. It's in beta and I still update it a lot, so things change.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. No download, no account, nothing to buy.
What can I play it on?
Anything with a recent browser: computers, Chromebooks, Android, iPhone and iPad. Gamepads work too. On slower devices it lowers the graphics on its own.
How long is a game?
There's no ending, you play until your cow dies. First tries usually last a few minutes, careful players go for an hour or more. Most of the secrets take a few games to find.
Is it multiplayer?
No, it's single-player. There's an online leaderboard for the cows that lived longest, plus a separate one for Hardcore.
Which languages is it in?
English, Czech, Polish, Slovak, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and French, all with voice. English has a British and an American narrator. There's also Pirate English, which is mostly a joke.
Is it OK for kids?
Yes, in Kids mode. No knife, no wolf, nobody gets run over, there's a fence at the cliff and the cow faints instead of dying. The normal game is cartoony and silly rather than gory, but cows do die in it, sometimes quite dramatically.
What's the trading card prize?
I hid ten trading cards on the meadow. Find all ten, tell the game where to send it, and I'll post you a real printed holo card. They're printed in English and Czech. Where they're hidden is a secret.
What are the controls?
Keyboard and mouse, a gamepad or touch. On a keyboard it's WASD to walk, Shift to trot, hold E to eat or drink, M to moo and hold P to poop. Every key and button can be changed in the menu.
Why is it called Cow Imposter?
Because that's you. Everyone else on the meadow is a real cow and you're trying not to get caught. It's spelled with an e, but searching for Cow Impostor finds it too.
Can I use the pictures on this page?
Sure, use them in articles or videos about the game. Click a picture to get the full size. If you need video, GIFs or something specific, email me at filip.mmasek@gmail.com.
How do I get in touch?
Email me at filip.mmasek@gmail.com. English or Czech is fine.
